Stuart Peter Johnson

Stuart was born in South Africa, and after a term of service in the navy, he moved to London working as a software developer and consultant. He has taught English in Italy and northern India.

After moving to St Leonards-on-Sea, and settling on the sea front, his passion for art has flourished. Currently, his main interest is seascapes on the English south coast, using watercolour and oil. He strives to express the colour and light so characteric of this area, currently using small panels to avoid getting too fussy. Year-round daily swims lend an immediate ‘brisk’ vitality and relevance to these images.

His recent work also includes portraiture, dreamwork and nocturnal cityscapes.

The primary focus is love of colour – manifesting it by obedience to an inquiring eye.
